2-Fluorobenzoyl chloride is a colorless transparent liquid, an important fluorinated aromatic acyl chloride intermediate widely used in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and fine chemicals. It has a melting point of 4℃, a boiling point of 95℃ (20 mmHg), hydrolyzes vigorously on contact with water, and requires sealed storage.
The distinctive feature of 2-fluorobenzoyl chloride lies in the dual role of the ortho fluorine: the strong electron-withdrawing effect of fluorine enhances the electrophilic reactivity of the acyl chloride, making acylation efficient, while the steric bulk of the ortho fluorine moderately buffers the reaction rate, reducing side reactions. This combination of “reactivity with controllability” makes it a preferred reagent for fluorinated acylation of substrates bearing sensitive groups, and the fluorine label also confers good metabolic stability on the product.
Applications: Intermediate for fluorinated antipsychotic, anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular drugs; fluorinated herbicides, insecticides and liquid crystal display materials.
