2-Chlorobenzoyl chloride is a colorless or pale yellow liquid, an important chlorinated aromatic acyl chloride intermediate widely used in pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and dyes. It is prepared by reacting o-chlorobenzoic acid with a chlorinating agent, with strict isomer control, and must be stored under dry, sealed conditions.
The acyl chloride group can undergo alcoholysis, ammonolysis, hydrolysis, and Friedel-Crafts acylation, making it a key reagent for introducing the 2-chlorobenzoyl group; the ortho chlorine atom can be further substituted or used to construct benzo-fused heterocycles, making it an important intermediate for synthesizing polysubstituted aromatic-ring drugs.
Applications: Used in ketamine hydrochloride and clofedanol API production; key intermediate of benzoylurea insecticides (triflumuron) and the acaricide clofentezine; disperse, acid and reactive dyes.
